Fun Science
We launched the social responsibility project called “Fun Science in Aegean Villages” under the sponsorship of ESİAD to support the children of farmer families in the Aegean Region to complete their education and enjoy their childhood. This project was developed as a measure to prevent child labor in agriculture and aims to contribute to preventing children of farmer families living in the villages of the Aegean Region from working in the fields at an early age. Within the scope of the project, summer holiday activities were organized for children of farmer families between the ages of 8 and 14. These activities aimed to prevent children from working in the fields and to contribute to their development.
In addition, the “Fun Science in Aegean Villages” event was held in the districts of Acıpayam, Akhisar, Bergama, Esme, Gördes, Kiraz, Kale and Tavas, and children were given practical training in subjects such as mathematics, science, digital technology, art and sports. After the training, all children were given a development guide to help them identify their strengths and continue to improve themselves. At the end of the summer event, brochures, information notes, participation certificates and gifts were distributed to the children.
In the first phase of the project, which was launched in Tavas district of Denizli in 2015, a total of 82 children were reached by organizing 2-week summer camps. With the impact and success of the project, it was expanded to 8 different villages in 4 provinces (Izmir, Manisa, Aydin, Usak) in the Aegean Region in the second year. In the period of July-September 2016, a total of 526 children were reached. Thanks to the “Fun Science in Aegean Villages” social responsibility project, hundreds of children participated in one-on-one practical workshops focused on active participation in the organized summer camps instead of working in the fields during the summer period. In the last week of the project, the Summer Camp in Arpaseki village of Kinik district was visited by press members from leading media organizations in Turkey.
- Within the scope of the ALP child labor principle, children under the age of 14 should be kept away from tobacco fields and children between the ages of 14-18 should be kept away from hazardous work. For this reason, a pilot project was carried out regarding the fun science summer school activity during the most labor intensive dates of the summer and while schools were on summer vacation.
