Product Summary
İzmir origin is produced in the Aegean region and is known on the outside market by the name of İzmir tobacco. Ecological production areas are: İzmir, Manisa, Muğla, Aydın, Denizli and partly Balıkesir districts.
It has generally small leaves , without petiole. Relative width and Length ratio is 1.1 / 2.2. The apperance is light yellow, greenish, yellow, fine veined and wary. They are strongly resistant to manipulation, mechanical factors and fermentation. In some of the upper leaves there are brown speckles indicating nobility. Izmir type is unique product with its superior properties such as being slow and sweet and smelling. Therefore, in order to utilize the sweetness and odor characteristics, İzmir origin is being used both in domestic production but also in American Blend type cigarettes. İzmir type tobacco is always preferred in order to sweeten the hardness of hard-blended cigarettes and to add an unique flavour to neutral blends.
Izmir type tobacco is famous for its low tobacco and protein ingredients and high rate of reducing sugar content. Nicotine content is around 1% on average and in some products it drops to 0.25-0.30%. The hygroscopicity of tobacco leaves is very high.
The soil characteristics of the region show a very different aspect. The charateristcis of tobacco fields are usually sandy, volcanic and alluvial. The upper layer of the soil is thin. Especially gray and red brown soil colors are common. The texture of the soil is sandy and clayey. The grains are interconnected, sand particles are visible, and they are easily fragmented.
Soil of the region is low acidic.
The climate of the Aegean region is characterized by Mediterranean climate. Generally, summers are hot and not rainy during cultivation period. In this period, the average temperature is 22.8 degrees and the amount of precipitation is 97 millimeters/m2. The average relative humidity of the air is 57%.
